I searched through the vinyl collection to bring you the first mix from our new studio.
With the last of the sun finally drawing to a close, and Halloween just around the corner, the mood and atmosphere is changing. 2020 has been a strange year, and with the days becoming shorter, the weather becoming colder, and the flu season just around the corner, it will be increasingly harder to stay positive. But positive we must stay!
On that, we are happy to announce we are working on a new double release which is more than half way complete. The initial musical elements and mixing is down, and we are currently collaborating with vocalists and other musicians to bring a human touch to our electronic music. True to Erra Project style, the music does aim to invoke elements of the natural world and the beauty surrounding us here in Ireland. We take inspiration from all we see and our direct experiences and try channel it through our music. Restrictions will not stop us! We look forward to this release. One of our ideas for the new artwork for this release can be seen here. We are very pleased to say that we were invited to join Tom and Lisa, of Phonic FM in Exeter, UK, to discuss all things music on their show.
We chatted about working creatively in isolation, our musical inspirations, plans for 2020 and 2021, writing process, and general philosophy towards music. The interview was a part of a mini-series focusing on creative persons during their lockdown. Big thanks to Lisa, Tom, and Phonic FM for having us. Be sure to check out Phonic FM, an alternative community radio station for the local area and beyond. Our interview can be accessed by clicking here. We are proud to release are second double single release of 2020, 'The World End', which features two lo-fi hip-hop tracks.
Both tracks were made in isolation from the Coronavirus, with the three musicians who performed on these working from three separate home studios! As always, we mixed and mastered the tracks ourselves from one of those studios. We always have lo-fi hip-hop playing while working or studying and welcome the recent explosion in the genre. Strangely it took us all this time before we decided to make a lo-fi hip-hop release of our own! The first track, 'In a Weary World' features some great bass playing from our friend Mark Hickey, and a fabulous vocal sample from Gene Wilder in his Willy Wonka character - it hits you right in the heart. The inspiration for the second track, 'Pont Neuf', was a recent trip to Paris where we caught up with some old friends and stayed in a beautiful apartment owned by a famous Parisian playwright overlooking the bridge of the same name. Hope you enjoy our new tracks. Ciaran and Steffen
